🌙 New Year, New Energy: Welcoming the Lunar New Year with Feng Shui

Lunar New Year is February 17, and we are now entering the Year of the Fire Horse.

Lately, I find myself watching all these videos about how the new year will affect my luck.
You know the kind—
What is the lucky color?
Which gemstones should I wear?
Where is the fortune area in my home?
Which plant should go in the bedroom to bring luck?
What should I avoid?

The list goes on and on. 😊

Like most Filipinos, we grow up believing in Feng Shui and in welcoming luck and prosperity into our homes and into ourselves.

A common dish I prepare for the New Year is rice cake (Tikoy).
In my home, I make it spring roll style or dip it in beaten egg and fry it.

A prosperity bowl with 12 round fruits or 12 mandarins is always on our dinner table.
It has become a tradition.
A symbol of abundance and hope for the coming year.

We already know the symbols.
We already feel the meaning.

But beyond the traditions, there is something deeper here.
A pause.
A reset.
A fresh beginning.

Feng Shui does not have to be complicated.
It is simple.
It suits everyone.
It fits any home and any stage of life.

And for women over 50, this ritual feels even more powerful.

We are no longer rushing.
We are choosing peace.
We are choosing intention.

At its heart, Feng Shui is about three things:

Declutter. Clean. Organize.

When you clear your space, you clear your mind.
When you refresh your home, you refresh your energy.

Small rituals bring big comfort.
And comfort is its own kind of prosperity.

I am not a Feng Shui expert.
These are just simple tips I personally enjoy doing to celebrate the Lunar New Year.
And they are easy for anyone to follow.

🧧 Simple Feng Shui Tips to Welcome the Lunar New Year

1️⃣ Declutter to Release Old Energy

Two weeks before Lunar New Year, I decluttered our home.
After the busy holidays, my house is not as sparkly as I want it to be.

So I start my deep cleaning in early February. One room at a time.

I begin with the kitchen (the dirtiest) and move to the bedrooms and living areas.

Start with: One drawer. One shelf. One corner.

Old things hold old stories. Broken items block energy flow. Crowded spaces feel heavy.

Let go of what you no longer use or love.
Make space for something new.

2️⃣ Clean Your Home with Intention

This is not just cleaning. This is cleansing.

When I do this, I get into the right mindset. I turn on music.I open the windows.I let the light in.

Cleaning is not always fun for everyone but if you get into the zone it can be really distressing, especially after seeing your home clean and sparkly.

As you clean, think:
“I am clearing last year’s stress.”
“I am welcoming peace and new energy.”

3️⃣ The Prosperity Bowl: A Simple Ritual for Abundance

One of my favorite Lunar New Year Feng Shui traditions is creating a Prosperity Bowl.

It is simple.
It is symbolic.
And it is beautiful to display in your home.

A Prosperity Bowl represents wealth, health, and good fortune for the year ahead.
Place it in your living room, dining area, or near your front entry where energy flows freely.

Think of it as a visual prayer.
A reminder of what you wish to attract into your life.

You don’t need anything fancy.
You only need intention.

🌾 What to Put in Your Prosperity Bowl:

🍊 Round Fruits (Abundance)
Oranges, apples, or tangerines symbolize fullness and prosperity.
Their round shape represents wholeness and good fortune.
Amazon ideas: decorative fruit bowls, artificial oranges.

🧧 Red Envelopes (Blessings)
Place small bills, affirmations, or family wishes inside.
💰 Coins (Wealth)
Chinese coins or regular coins symbolize money flow and security.
Amazon ideas: Feng Shui coin sets, decorative charms.

🌰 Rice or Grains (Stability)
Rice represents nourishment and never going hungry.
Amazon ideas: glass jars, decorative bowls, wooden scoops.

🍬 Sweets (Joy)
Candy or chocolates represent sweetness in life and relationships.
Amazon ideas: candy dishes, decorative jars.

🌸 Flowers or Lucky Bamboo (Growth)
They symbolize renewal and fresh beginnings.
Amazon ideas: lucky bamboo plants, small vases, plant pots.

🕯️ Candle (Light & Hope)
A candle represents clarity and transformation.
Amazon ideas: scented candles, candle holders.

4️⃣ Add Living Plants

I love indoor plants. Plants represent growth and life.

Every time I see sunlight on my plants, it lifts the energy of the room and my energy as well.

My favorites:
Lucky bamboo
Jade plant
Rubber plant
Snake plant
Peace lily

Keep them healthy.
Dead plants bring tired energy.

5️⃣ Refresh the Front Door

In Feng Shui, the front door is the mouth of opportunity.
It is where good energy enters.

Wipe it clean. Add light. Add a wreath.Make it welcoming.

This simple step can change how your whole home feels.

6️⃣ Light Candles for New Beginnings

Lighting a candle feels like driving away negative vibes.

I light candles not only during Lunar New Year, but anytime I need new energy.

Fire symbolizes transformation.
It helps release the old and invite the new.

Light a candle. Sit quietly. Set your intention for the year:

Peace .Health. Joy .Abundance.

7️⃣ Wear Lucky Colors

Energy is not only in your home. It is in you too.
Dressing for the occasion creates intention.

Red brings courage. Gold brings confidence. Green brings fortune. Soft neutrals bring calm.

Wear something that makes you feel beautiful and strong.

🌸 Final Thoughts

Feng Shui is not about superstition.
It is about awareness.

It teaches us to slow down.
To care for our space.
And to care for ourselves.

You do not need a perfect home.
You only need intention.
A reminder that your home is open to blessings, peace, and new beginnings.

This Lunar New Year, choose:

A lighter space.
A calmer heart.
A hopeful mindset.
